What does everyone think about charging extra appearance fee for jobs at the airport?
You have to wait in line to get a pass to get on through the security line without a ticket, then wait
in the security line for 30 ro 45 minutes, unpack you equipment to get through the security and then
pack it back up. Usually it's at least an extra hour of my time for all that. Doesn't that warrant some
extra charge?
Thanks

If you're not getting some kind of a per diem, certainly an hourly charge for that seems appropriate. They're hosting the depo at the airport because of the convenience to them, not the wonderful accommodations or the beautiful view. Why not charge them for the inconvenience factor to you?
Same thing with jobs at the courthouse. You want me to stand in line with the rest of "courthouse society" to get scanned in, sit in the audience and wait for the case to be called, and you want to pay me... what? A half-day/full-day per diem is appropriate for those occasions, in my view.
It sure does. If I had this come up a lot, I would add that to my rate sheet. I'd consider it waiting time and charge my hourly rate for that. Totally fair and reasonable. I'm at 2 airports frequently but the deps are always held at a hotel. Much easier!
Well, I have a flat half day rate I charge firms..........but to me this is the same as dead waiting time that you should get something extra because you are not making any money on pages.
I don't do half-day rates. I have one appearance fee that is from 9-6 and an hourly rate before 9 and after 6. And I have an hourly waiting fee, which is a few dollars less. I think waiting time applies to the extra time involved in getting to a dep that's past security.
I think time for waiting when you are not getting pages should be a higher rate.
