Winery in Destin, Florida

Hello everyone! I figured I'd post about a great little place I frequent whenever I'm in Destin. It's called Emerald Coast Wine Cellars, and it's in Miramar Beach, FL (which is essentially Destin).…Continue

You know, Kelli, KJ chardonnay is my all time fave, but white wine gives me a headache! And, Cathryn, I do love Gewurz, too! Very sweet and fruity.

For a great white that's not too dry, try Gewuerztraminer. Firestone makes a good one.

Speaking of champagne, anyone else here like Korbel's Natural Champagne? I have never been a champagne fan, preferring wine, but this is great.

I'm only a scopist and proofreader, but I do love wine. I used to drink strictly white, but I have changed teams. Now I am all about the red. Every time I see one of those health reports on the news that talks about the best foods to prevent cancer, heart disease and free radicals, the answer is always red wine.

Now, I know merlot got a bad rap on the movie "Sideways," but it's my absolute favorite. If that makes me a rube, so be it. How can anyone not like the rich blend of plums and berries? The best merlot I've tasted is Kendall Jackson.

Marla, thanks for the invite. I have to say after a grueling day, I'm indulging in a glass of Red Truck from Sonoma. Cheers.

What a great response to this group! Thank you all for joining, and let's keep the conversation going. Tonight I am finishing off a bottle I opened 2 nights ago. 2005 Sequoia Grove Napa Cabernet. It is tannic, deep, with lots of wood and pairs well with dark chocolate.

Donna, you might try a Pinot Grigio. It's a very light white that is not too sweet like a Riesling and not too dry like a Sauvignon Blanc. Also much lighter than a Chardonnay.

I am a fan of the pinot blanc. To me it is a soft and easy wine that doesn't add too much to food. A nice wine to have by itself!

I just wanted to add that I NEVER drink wine (or anything else stronger than Diet Pepsi) when I'm scoping or proofreading. I always figure my wonderful reporters would be less than appreciative of it. So for me, a glass of wine signifies the end of the workday. Which is probably why such is a rather rare event because I almost always do some work in the evenings. I know that red wine is de rigeur at the moment, but does anyone know of a great white that's not TOO dry?
