Stacking

What can I say? I'm not sure it's me or the machine anymore. I always thought it was my 8000LX, but now maybe it's me. I don't have a new machine yet, no, hopefully soon, but I had a doozy yesterday I wanted to share.

Q. Do you have a TKHAOEUFP application? TKHAOEUFP = copy of that

Yikes! Triple stacking now. Like a triple cheeseburger, but less fun.

Attorney Funnies

I love the attorneys' sayings down here in the South. The other day, we had this exchange (names have been changed) and I thought it was so cute. The (male) witness didn't even blink an eye when the (female) questioning attorney said it to him, either. In another state, I'm not sure it would fly:

Q. I appreciate the clarification, Mr. Jones.
A. You bet.
Q. I don't need the sass. How about that?
A. I'm just making sure we're clear.

Cute, right?

Dear Reporters:

In November of 2008, the NCRA Board of Directors voted to explore/develop a plan for the testing and certification of non-steno methods. These methods include electronic recording/digital audio recording and voicewriting.

As members of NCRA, we believe it is in… Continue

Extreme Case of Cancelitis

For the past two weeks. I think it's terminal. I'm giving myself two days to live. Luckily it happens to be Friday so that means I have the weekend. Almost every single job I have taken, the witnesses have not shown up. The two that went, the attorney ordered a rough draft, took it, then said they thought it was a courtesy copy and won't pay for it. The other that went, they ordered rush one-day delivery in the morning, canceled it in the afternoon after I had been feverishly working like a… Continue

Best Buy Rocks! Thank you for connecting me to the world again!

Hi from Hurricane Ike country. I am still out of work and out of power, but thankfully the temperatures have been very comfortable since Monday so we can sleep at night. One of my problems is no internet access or computer access (as well as no fresh meats, perishables, ice) but we've been dealing with it, very fortunate our home was spared. I have been looking for electric access to charge phones or get to my email and saw this Best Buy was open on I-10 and Blalock. They have a nice long table… Continue

Hi, Sue:) Thank you for the comment on the pics. I loved that we were able to do everything ourselves and still have a absolutely dreamy wedding. I would love to be a consultant on the side some day!

Can you refresh my memory on what the comment was about? Then maybe I can help. Thanks!

Hi Sue. So, business is not that good in Texas? Steve and I were thinking of moving back. Maybe we shouldn't! I need to find out where the best place is for business. We can move pretty much anywhere at the stage we're at right now. And money is a huge factor. I hear captioning is in demand but I'm relearning some theory and OMG am I having a time with it. It's hard to relearn something. Even tho I haven't reported in 12 years I still write stuff in my head and translate things into steno in my head! ha Is Barbara A. still at A&A or did she sell?

Hi Sue, for some reason I wasn't able to get a private message to you, so I'll just tell you that I have that same shirt you are wearing in the above picture and I just love it. Looks good on you! See, us Texas gals with no electricity and the same shirt need to stick together!! Just sent you a friend invite....

Hi, Sue,
Reporting... ah, yes, what a conundrum! I likewise have scheduling "issues," where one's free time is truly not free. It seems one has to always be available to the vicissitudes of chance that a job might call in. Then when they do call in, one is swamped, usually rushing, and again must miss out on other aspects of life. I often wonder if other professionals face similar issues. It is tough on an individual, but I have come to learn that it is even tougher on families.
That does sound exciting for Mary! What a great opportunity to see other parts of our great country! I hope her experiences are educational and pleasurable.
Em stays busy, almost from morning to night. Her in exhaustable and sustainable energy now reminds me of our younger days... how we were able to work into oblivion and then go home and play similarly and then get up and do it again. It was life; not much idle time.
Good luck on getting out your work. I likewise will be working this weekend. Did a favor and took an afternoon depo yesterday that went until 7:00 and is not a rush. Oh, well... so much for family time this weekend. Since I am not working Monday, maybe my family can quit everything they have planned on Monday and then we'll have family time. Oh... there's that conundrum again!

Hey, Sue! Hope this finds you doing well. I guess I've got a ways to go before learning how to functionally utilize these type services as I just NOW received your message "on my wall???" from back in April. No, I did not make it to Galveston. I don't recall why now, other than we probably either had taxes or some kind of other family commitment, plus... I have way too many points for State, and I'd just be getting points for NCRA. Since my points start over next year, I think I'll be doing a good many seminars from 2009 or maybe 2010.
How is work going for you? Are you able to work as much as you like, yet not overwork? That is the key question in our business.

Hi Sue! Thanks for your comments. I've lived in DC for just over 2 years and I like it here. It was a big adjustment moving to the big city (I lived in Utah and Illinois previously), but it is fun most of the time. I am in a tutoring class that is taught by a former reporter and I go part-time. I work full-time in the non-profit sector and go to class twice a week at night.
Eclipse is nice, and I enjoy being able to real-time, but there is still a lot I have to figure out! How long have you been reporting?

Dang, Sue! You got yourself a good one there. I don't want to try to recreate it. LOL Are you talking about the Cap, Spelling, Fix buttons? Enlarging the box doesn't help? Does doing whatever you did with the + sign help at all?

I'm grasping here. Dang!!

Thanks, Sue. I am feeling good for the first time in about four years. I finally conquered what ailed me and am trying to get used to not being a deathly ill person for a change! I just missed seeing you one day a few months ago at the SBISD building. Did they tell you? I saw a Sue Baker had signed in just ahead of me, and I made a comment to the young girl there that I knew a Sue Baker, and when I came out she said that it probably was the same Sue Baker I knew. (I told her you were about my age, so I wasn't sure if she said that b/c she thought you were my age or whether she asked you.) Anyway, this looks like fun. I have been pretty out of the reporting world but actually took a deposition about a month ago. Wow, my fingers still worked. I guess it's like riding a bike . . .
