HI MY FRIEND!!!
Sorry, yeah, I've been workin... however, I've also been flirtin. Breanna got me back on eHarmony. How's 201? Are you going to move your office? I'll help you... hey, wanna do the stairs with me today? Nah, never mind, you'd leave me huffin & puffin in the dust... :) Love you my friend, keep smiling, it makes me smile, too, and so on and so forth.
OMG, remind me later to tell you my idea about the fish movie!
Hey, Tami! I was pretty bummed about it, too. Unfortunately, I'm sure a lot of that's happening around the country. Andrea said she would like to teach at the local college there, but they require a bachelor's degree. Total BS for a speciality profession like ours. They're rather hire an idiot that knows nothing about court reporting all because they have a bachelor's degree. Definitely something wrong with the system.
Tami,
While in school I had to force myself to practice and it's been the same way working on my temp. license because it was just so frustrating. Now with Stenomaster, I'm excited about the progress I'm making and what I'm going to learn in my practice session, there's a ton I'm learning so it's actually kind of fun. I just hope I can get up to speed by April and pass the 3 parts that I need to. Thanks for asking - my kids are 18, 17, 15, and 12. I went back to school when my youngest went to kindergarten and he's in 6th grade now if that puts it into perspective! Good luck to your son. He's SO lucky he started out with the right theory!!!
Yeah I think it's good Clay doesn't work too. He works really hard in school. All the teachers think so too hah.
Yeah I think the improv is going to be fun. I've never heard of the comedian before, but Clay says he's funny.
That's so awsome you guys came to a decision on a new apartment for Clay! It's basically on campus. What a lucky boy. Are you going to be helping with the move?
I use all the door briefs too:) they come up a lot.
Hope you're having a nice relaxing three-day weekend!
I'm interested in learning Stenomaster. How was converting for you? If you can give me some details that would be great. Maybe we can get together sometime! I hope so.
You are SO right!!! I'm a new reporter - it took me 5 years to get out of school!!! using a very stroke intensive theory just as you described in your post. I am now training myself on Stenomaster theory (Mark K's) which is all about tucking in all the inflected endings and many other concepts/ideas I would never have thought of and would never be able to pass my state cert test if I hadn't found this theory, so you are right on target!!!
I bet it felt good to be such a young reporter! I hope I get out soon... I duno though w/ all these crazy academics and them not being offered. But I'll TRY.
That's such a small world that you know his wife. I didn't know you were a server and went to school. wow. and u still got out in two years!
I will definetely keep learning to write shorter. Whatever it takes to get me up in speed. I used those briefs yesterday front yard FRARD and back yard. I think you're the one who told me about that, thanks!
I hope things are going well and you're not completely overworking yourself this week! I just added to your "Write shorter, you guys! What's the matter with you?" discussion.
I did want to tell you I have no idea about that natural ability thing as I was an extremely slow and steady learner. My parents put me through school and paid for everything. All I did was go to school and practice, practice, practice! Now, I did crochet and knit really, really fast. Does that mean something? I don't know ...
Well, that's good to hear that your new judge is nice. And no worries about me not sitting out. I've been pretty busy too with starting school. But Fridays are good for me too because we get out early and don't have night classes. I can't do it this Friday though, but maybe next?
And I have started using SKP for about the last few months. It just sort of started working for me hah. But yeah I love it with my phases and I never usually right and out anymore:) My writing has gotten sooo much shorter, you'd be proud :)
You left me a message about realtime. I want to share with you some of my thoughts.
First I want to say that to the people who are certified in realtime or the officials who do hookups for their judges everyday, I want to say I have great respect for you guys. My translations used to be pretty good but never that good. For the last ten years or so I have had a neurologic condition in my hands called an essential tremor. It has gotten worse and worse. I cannot handwrite hardly at all. I can still type and write on the machine. As a matter of fact, I broke out some of my old merit-speed tapes, and I can still write them, but my translation, especially in the past year, has gone straight to hell. I don't even read back from the screen anymore, only from my paper notes. I can talk to my students about some of the basics for realtime, but having never had that CRR skill, what I would do in their best interest is bring in somebody like you to talk to them about the fine points of honing their realtime skills.
My own mission is to teach them advansed reporting skills. I want to teach the babies how to practice, how to shoot for perfection, an attitude that they can do this if they put their heart and souls into it. That is what I want my contribution to be. I am very hesitant to share my writing style with them because their system is Sten-Ed. If they are true to that system, they will be able to use a canned dictionary and get a great translation. Sten-Ed is actually a pretty good theory. It is a pretty short system. I did share with them that you can write inference in one stroke. I don't consider that a brief, so I gave it to them. They really dug that. Maybe I'll give them cigarette (STKPWRET) or Christmas (KRPLS). I will have to think about that.
I've been meaning to get back to you all day! Yes, I have links and check every day now six forums. I keep learning good stuff, so I just can't stop. I do it in order, too. First I check my email, then Eclipse, CRF, depoman, NCRA, CRA (Court Reporter Assistance) and now CSRnation! A little bit of OCD, perhaps? Don't answer that!
Hey, Tami! I want to see that main picture on the "other" site right away! If you need help getting it the right size, let me know. Thanks for including me in your photo album!

I think your reply to why we weren't all taught the same theory is right on the money!
Sometimes I like to just crack myself up! I've been going through all my files, organizing and deleting. That's my excuse! Jenny

More yakking tomorrow, Jenny
By the way, I've never been very good at darts. ;)
Love your pictures! I see you're spreading the good Stenomaster word over here, YAY!!
How old is your youngest? My little guy will be four in April. He is spoiled rotten by all the extra female attention he gets in our house.
I didn't realize you were on ProCat. I used ProCat when I was an official also. You are going to love Eclipse when you decide to make the change.
