load star standards

Does anyone out there know if "loadstar" is capitalized? I am proofing a job, and I've never heard of it before. Hope someone out there can help me out.

Thanks

New Writer Research

I am looking into getting a new writer. But there are so many writers out there and I want to make sure that I look at them all.

So far I have:

Stenograph Mira
Stenograph Fusion
Stenovations Lightspeed
GeminiWriter
ProCAt Stylus
Eclipse Passport

Are there any other writers out there that I should be looking at or that I missed?

Reference Check on Firms

By Lisa Andriot Migliore

How many reporters quit the business altogether because of bad firm experiences?

As a court reporter and former teacher who loves our profession, I hate seeing new reporters end their careers before they have even begun. Our future relies on these rare souls with the tenacity to make it through the program to begin with. Even seasoned… Continue

Opinion 17: Who Gets The Toaster?

By

Marcia A. Johnson, Director

Minnesota Office of Lawyers Professional Responsibility

Reprinted from Bench & Bar of Minnesota (August 1993)

It is the age of rebates; it is the time of perks and incentives. Companies need a gimmick. Even companies that sell services to lawyers. And the perks aren’t just toasters these days. They start with coffee makers, Walkman radios, or tickets to the Guthrie and they progress… Continue

On The Road Again....

Well, I'm back from a busy eight days in Anaheim. My family and I saw everything we possibly could see, from Disneyland to Sea World to Hollywood and everything in between.

The convention was great for the two days I spent there, but spending my time with my family was the focus.

So, it took me almost a week to recover from the combination of jet lag and just general fatigue from a very busy week out west.

Well, I've dropped my speed to the RPR level and have… Continue

Reporter's Happy Hour :)

Hi Everyone,

My name is Nic and I'm new to CSR Nation, but think it is really a great site! I live in San Diego and really would love to have a once a month happy hour to get together and talk with all the other fabulous reporters out there. If anyone is interested, please send me some feedback. I was sort of thinking of Wine Steals in Hillcrest, or if anyone has any other suggestions, I'm totally open, maybe on a Friday around 7:00 - 9:00, or so.

I look forward to hearing from… Continue

Court Reporters Friend, Fa. Ed Nadolny makes Pope John XXIII Patron of Weight Loss cards

Forum members have heard of Father Edmund Nadolny, the friend of court reporters and the maker of the first-ever court reporter patron saint's card.

Well, Father Ed has now just made a real fun Patron of Weight Loss card.

There are two different cards with really two nice prayers for help in losing weight.

Both cards have a picture of Pope John XXIII on the front side.

I will hopefully have these cards added to my website for viewing in a short…

THE WITNESS: I live in Los Angeles.

Q Do you want to use the interpreter today?

THE INTERPRETER: I don't understand. Please repeat.

Q Do you feel comfortable using an interpreter?

First day in Federal Court

I had my first day in federal court and I survived.

I couldn't sleep last night I was so nervous.

It was calendar and we covered 13 different matters. OMG.

I think I got all the speakers, whoo-hoo. Now all I've got to worry about is the words. But that's for another day.

Next thing I've got to do is figure how to upload the notes so I can get paid.

Site for Reporters to get work Scoped and for Scopists to get Work!!

I was on another forum and a reporter mentioned this site. It's for court reporters to get work scoped at reasonable rates. And also for scopists to join their site, and the site gets you work and you work when you want, and they pay you every two weeks and just take 10% commission fee.

Sounds real good for the scopists that are looking for work and for reporters to get their work scoped on the occasions that their own personal scopist is too busy or away on vacation.

Taking Leads

So I worked for this stenographer for a few days last week. I tell her I'm in the writing profession so she asks me to proofread this 500 page deposition. Afterwards, she throws me this web address. I'm not sure how the networking transpires but I do have time to edit/proofread anyone's work.

Best, Kevin

My daugher's new pet

On Thursday, I worked from 10 am to 5:30pm and had an hour drive home. My MIL picked up Abby from the sitter's. She had her 'pet' with her, lol. So I gave in and Googled snails and we have a new pet. Coconut likes bananas! Isn't that funny? I need to get turnips and see if she goes for those. We call her 'she' but snails are he/she's, lol. I should have been working on trannys today but ended up taking… Continue

First Day of the CSR Annual Convention aka Vendor CAT training day

Well, day one went well. Registration was pretty smooth. Online voting went well.

I learned some interesting things at my CAT software training session.

The opening happy hour reception was very nice. Tons of food.

I looked for the CSRNation people. I did not see anyone. Where, oh, where are you hiding?

Did not get a chance to see the Exhibition hall, but will try to hit it tomorrow..

Wireless Stenocast question using serial, too.

Hello fellow court reporters!!
I have bought Stenocast, wireless realtime. I love it. It has a serial port so you can also use serial for extra
hookups. Has anybody tried this, i.e., wireless and serial at the same time? I tried tonight and it did not work.
I will call support in the morning. Just wondered if any of you wonderful people have tried this.
Thanks!! :)

A wedding I photographed last Saturday

This was my favorite of the day! They finished the reception at 3:30 so the three of us went to our local Pier and took a few between the sprinkles that were falling. I was very excited at what I was able to do with this, as it was dark/rainy. You would never know, lol. I love digital!

Who's getting excited?

The NCRA Annual Convention is less than a week away. Whoo-hoo. I'll be at the Eclipse Advantage seminar on Thursday and definitely all the social events. Would love to meet everybody. I think Marla is trying to set up some kind of group activity.

Okay. Who's going to buy me a… Continue
