I just wanted to say that I tried this service offered by Premier Reporting. If you're interested it's listed in our Classifieds section. The website was a breeze to use and you can't beat the price when all you need is a now-and-again E-Tran conversion.
Thanks, Roberta-Anne :)

When you are syncing the text with the audio, do the timestamps start at 00:00:00 or must they be SET to the actual time that the depo starts. Thanks!

So do you ever go to those depos w/all your luggage in hand and then have to climb up narrow flights of stairs?
You would think the attorney would have a handicap-accessible office? After all, they're attorneys for goodness sake. Aren't they supposed to be making sure the law is not abused.
Feel free to share your pet peeves.

I am relatively new to the world of court reporting. I am currently a student looking to buy my very first machine, the only problem is I have so many questions and not sure where to find the answers.
1. In California, does it matter if you are writing with the most modern machines, or can I get by with a Stenture 400 SRT for at least my first year? Or A Stentura Protege?
2. What are the major differences between a Stentura 8000 and a Stentura 8000LX?
3. Are…

I have a cold and it's driving me batty. It's just low level. Nothing easily visible, painting a target on my back w/she's sick!!
No, No. Just an energy-zapping, sore throat kind of thing. No coughing unless in depo. Of course, then there's the persistent tickle that never goes away no matter how many cough lozenges you take.
I've had it about a week now. Just kind of a check congestion. Taking cold Tylenol at night, but really tired.
Hope everyone out there is…

This is awful...
From what I have read on several sites, he was the founder of an organization/tv show that was geared toward enlightening people on the Muslim culture and to disband any negative notions that the general population has towards Muslims.
I still feel we should all be open minded and not look at people as a whole group but individually. This man clearly had personal issues that he needed…

Does anyone have firsthand knowledge/experience with Visionary CR or the Min-U-Script programs? They seem to be in the same ballpark costwise. I only got a glimpse of them at the NCRA Convention in Anaheim. I'm looking for an alternative to E-Tran. Need to print full size, condensed, e-mail the minis and client needs viewer software so they can trial prep.

I was telling my Girlfriend about being a Scopist and she asked me if she can do it with out buying anything. I think she can but I am not too sure. I think maybe she would have to have case catlyst or something like that. Can someone help me help her out. I am on CaseCatalyst. I have been a practicing Reporter for 25 years, and for the past three years have been scoping and proofreading. I have very reasonable rates, fast turnaround and am a perfectionist. I also have a very extensive vocabulary. I am in need of working from my home, so I need more Reporters to scope for. Hope to hear from you soon!!!!!!!!!

I was wondering when an attorney asks a question and the witness repeats the question verbatim, do you use a special brief stroke, or do you just rewrite the question?
Thanks!!! :)

Thanks!

I know people are afraid to take jobs from agencies they are not familiar with, so I just wanted to vouch for Karen of Reliance Reporting that she is for real. She's a wonderful person too. So if anyone ever sees a last-minute job from her, you can be assured that you will get paid, and it's good work too. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. It's sad there are "scam artists" out there, so maybe those who know small agencies that may get the bad wrap can post a blog about them,…

Here's more things I wish I knew my first year out.
It's a little slow; right? Or not. But you're looking to expand your base of people for whom you're working. You're getting calls from out-of-state agencies. You're getting e-mails from CSRnation from nationwide firms. But you don't know them. Do you really want to give them your Social Security number?
Probably not. That's why you should apply for an EIN (Employee identification number) or TIN (taxpayer identification…

What do you guys think about Simply Steno? I looked at their sample schedule for a week: Please let me know what you think. (BTW been out of the field for a while) do you guys think this is worth geting back into the field for $610 to start and that covers the first 3 months. After that it's $360 every three months. I already finished a program where I proved that I can write accuratley at 225. I guess it is one of those cases where if you don't use it you will lose it. Well I have totally lost…

Just trying to get some advice. I've been reporting for many years now, but I've always wondered what to do when witnesses make sound effects. You know, as an example, "Yeah. I was traveling down the road and the car just went right through the center divide" and then the witness made this crunching, banging noise! I'm thinking I should put some kind of blurb in parenthesis, i.e., (witness makes sound) or (unintelligible) or something to indiciate that he made a sound effect, you know? Any…
