Okay, this is the BEST link I could find. I think it captures it in a nutshell: LISTSERV, list serve, listserve, and listserv

Then there's good old Wikipedia: Wikipedia exlanation of LISTSERV

Dag, now I'm confused! LOL

I googled "LISTSERVE" and their website is "ListServe.com," not all caps. Also, since they lower case and use it as two words, I would also do the same, "list serve." They way I read their site, it is "ListServe.com" for web address only.

The only time I have ever heard the word "LISTSERV" is when the speaker refers to everybody getting correspondence that is on the LISTSERV. I did not know there was a company called LISTSERV, though.

Here is one explanation: "An automatic mailing list server developed by Eric Thomas for BITNET in 1986. When e-mail is addressed to a LISTSERV mailing list, it is automatically broadcast to everyone on the list. The result is similar to a newsgroup or forum, except that the messages are transmitted as e-mail and are therefore available only to individuals on the list. LISTSERV is currently a commercial product marketed by L-Soft International. Although LISTSERV refers to a specific mailing list server, the term is sometimes used incorrectly to refer to any mailing list server. Another popular mailing list server is Majordomo, which is freeware.

Even if used generically, Jennie, rather than the company LISTSERV?

LISTSERV, all in caps.

LISTSERV/Listserv/list serve
I knew we had discussed this, but I didn't participate or look anything up. LISTSERV is a trademark. However, People use it as a generic term for any kind of email list -- at least my witness is.

I found LISTSERV, of course, but also ListServe.com, and they have this on their site:
List serves are among the most useful Internet power tools. Use a list serve in conjunction with your web site to "push" your message to your target audience and promote traffic to your web site at the same time. List serves have many different uses and users:

From that, it looks like list serve should be used generically and LISTSERV only specifically. What do you all think?

I am glad you found the word as "annex."

At first blush, I would have agreed with Brenda, as AN/AT/US sounds a wee bit like "an address."

That is why this forum is great, to get the input of others, and before you know it, voila, you have the answer you were seeking! :)
